Keeping your little one dry when you’re wandering around the shops can be a struggle – buggies don’t always readily fit through shop doors and more often than not, you get caught in a downpour when you least expect it. Pushchair manufacturers the world over have designed a number of accessories to keep the rain at bay – the most popular of which is the simple rain cover.
Rain covers are one of the most common accessories included when you purchase a pushchair. Some raincovers attach to the outside of your pram using simple clips, others are more integrated, and zip on to the fabric of the pushchair seat. Generally, the rain cover will be made from a transparent PVC material and fits over the whole of the pushchair, exposing only the wheels and handles, so your child has plenty of space around them and the buggy is still easy to manoeuvre, it just stays dry inside. Once you’re indoors again, it’s important to open the rain cover up and allow it to dry thoroughly – if you leave the cover zipped while in a shop, your baby will get stuffy and frustrated as the inside fogs up. If you leave the cover in a bunch or don’t allow it to dry properly, it might develop a mouldy smell.
Popular pushchairs that typically come with their own raincover include Britax, Graco, Quinny and Silver Cross. Other makes may include a raincover, or one may be purchased separately from the manufacturer or one of the many pushchair makers who produces universal rain covers.
Buying a raincover online is easy as the majority of baby goods retailers stock them. Double check with your chosen online merchant to see if you can get a rain cover thrown in for free with your pushchair purchase – and read the product description thoroughly as often, popular brands will include one anyway. Try to buy your raincover from an online shop with a flexible return policy so you can exchange it if it’s incompatible with your pushchair.
