In 1965, Owen Maclaren unveiled the B01 baby buggy – a revolution for families on the go. Crafted from lightweight materials and designed to stand up to the abuse small children could dish out, the simple 3D folding pushchair heralded the beginning of something big. Today, there are scores of different buggies produced with the Maclaren principles of function, style and durability – each reflecting the firm’s history of innovation in child travel.
Maclaren produce pushchairs that are functional as well as fashionable. A number of limited edition strollers have been released under the Maclaren name in recent years – all focussed on providing parents with the same convenience and functionality as the original B01 buggy, but each year Maclaren seems to unveil at least one pushchair that has a little extra something. Collaborations with leading designers such as Bill Amberg and Philippe Starck have produced a number of iconic pushchairs. For 2007, Maclaren released the ultimate in chic designer accessories for kids – the Maclaren GB Au buggy. This extremely limited edition of just 20 pushchairs are made from gold coloured lightweight carbon fibre, with a luxurious black leather seat featuring an embroidered coat-of-arms style Maclaren logo – there’s even a removable nine carat gold ‘M’ brooch for mummy.
If you’re not lucky enough to snag one of Maclaren’s exclusive GB Au buggies this year, never fear – there are plenty of prams on offer for choosy parents. All Maclaren pushchairs feature a washable seat, an integrated shopping basket, a water resistant hood, ultra-compact umbrella fold and a five-point harness for safety – Maclaren push chairs also come with a rain cover as standard.
